Welcome to the Rex dwarflop rabbit website.
The Rex dwarflop is in Europe known as "Rex Widder" because the word "Widder" is the German name for "lop". Because we would like to see the Rex lop in a dwarf form, the name for the recognition in Germany is "Rex zwergwidder". In the Netherlands this breed would be named "Rex dwerghangoor". In other overseas countries the name of the breed would be "Mini Plush Lops" or Dwarf Plush Lops" ... please let me know if there are other names that suit the breed better.
Whether and when the time for recognition is coming, time will tell. I am a member of the KLN and a special club for Rex rabbits and hope that this wonderful breed will be recognized in the Netherlands soon.
Rex rabbits have a very short coat that feels like velvet! The coat requires no special care. The structure of this coat seems to give no allergies to some people. (this is not 100% guarantee) It's not that Rex rabbits don't shed, they do this but after the first big shed you mostly see no large shedding anymore, at least not as much as normal haired rabbits.
The Lop rabbit is enormous fun to watch and when approached correctly these rabbits have a sweet character. Rabbits are not cuddly toys and children should therefore be taught how to deal with rabbits.
The Rex Lop is seen as a "dwarf" rabbit but the weight of the animals, according to the standard is between 1400 and 1900 grams. That is a little more then the Holland dwarflop and not at all compared to the Polish and Color Dwarfs.
On this website I want the maximum of information about keeping rabbits in general and the Rex dwarflop in particular. Of course, you will find information about the progress of getting recognition and my rabbits on this website.
Enjoy your visit!
